Our 2 year anniversary weekend!!
On 17 June 2007, Jason and I celebrated our 2nd anniversary.
To celebrate, we booked a hotel on the south coast at a hotel called Hotel Heritance.
Jason's friend knows the owner of half the hotels in Sri Lanka, Mr Aitken of "Aitken & Spence", whatever.
Anyway, so we drove down in the Red Baron on Saturday morning. It is only 60 km, but took about 2 hours to get there, for several reasons:
1. The roads out of Colombo are congested and scary.
2. The Red Baron doesn't go over 60km an hour.
3. The roads between Colombo and Ahungalle are scary.
4. We stopped several times, searching for a disposable camera.
So when we finally got on the road, I realised that the batteries of my camera were about 6 photos away from running out, so we didn't take many. After 4 different shop assistants in 4 seperate Kodak stores tried to rip us off (2000LKRs for a disposable, when its 2300LKR for a real camera, is a rip off, and I don't need a real camera). But we decided to "do a Kramer" with the battery and see if we could take it all the way before the juice ran out.
We drove through crazy traffic, farmers sitting on top of their truck load..
We drove past kms and kms of fruit sellers..
And then we finally arrived..
It was SOOOOOOO beautiful!!!!
We arrived to a glass of complimentary chilled Californian Chablis, and met with the Resdient Manager. We were upgraded to the luxury suite.. !!!
We lived like a King and a Queen and were treated like we were important, which was nice.
Note the fruit basket.. : )The view from our massive private balcony...
There was even a nice wave that was barrelling at one point, right outside the hotel.. What a shame Jason didn't bring his board... (he he he)
It was like a movie - the Manager sent us a letter inviting us to call in case we needed "anything at all". We received complimentary treats. But the funny thing was at breakfast, when we had finished with the delightful breakfast (with an omlette chef, a waffle chef and a bacon chef!), we got up to leave. Four waiters rushed around us and shooed us back to the table, saying they had a suprise.. They brought out a chocolate cake, with a gorgeous sugar rose, with writing that said "Happy Anniversary Jason and Katarine". There was a knife with the ribbons tied at the handle, and they insisted we cut the cake together, both holding the knife at the same time..
Thank goodness the camera battery had pretty much had it, so there's no photographic evidence of our embarassment. He he he..
We had a lovely weekend and really didn't want to leave. But it was nice to "rent" a slice of heaven for a short time..
We drove away smiling and peaceful with life.
Peace xx
